I've always been curious about Damaso, ever since I stepped foot in Greenbelt 5 a few years ago. When my cousin
Virna (Firesenshi) asked me out for lunch a couple of weeks before Christmas, I found it as the perfect opportunity to try this restaurant.
That's my cousin. I hafta admit that the real reason why I was so intrigued by Damaso was its interiors. It looked so elegant, although it didn't feel old school.
If I weren't against the light, you could actually see how green it is outside. This is one thing I like about Greenbelt 5. It's pretty quiet and the view is so very nice.
I realized what Damaso's theme is the moment I opened the menu. Their desserts are named after characters from Rizal's
Noli Me Tangere. Hm. Okay, I found the dishes to be quite expensive and since I had been having health problems (therefore, I cannot eat too much), I decided to just go for the appetizers. Virna thought the same thing.
Crisp Cones with Crab, Corn and Tomato Relish (approx. PhP250). It tastes as good as it looks. I was surprised to find myself enjoying every bite.
Lang Lang Noodle Soup (approx. PhP275). This was Virna's order. It was very filling so she wasn't to finish all of it. She wanted more room for dessert.
Pumpkin (or squash?) soup. Forgot how much this costs, but it was good enough to warm my stomach.
For dessert, Virna had Sisa's Dementia (PhP 160). It's a truffle cake with white chocolate almond pastille filling, dark chocolate mousse and ganache. She said it actually tasted better than the last dessert she had here, which was Ibarra's Kiss, a chocolate-orange confection.
I had been eyeing this the moment I entered the establishment. This is Brazo ni Doña Vicki (PhP100), which I suppose is named after Doña Victorina, that lovable character who was supposed to be annoying but ended up being the most memorable of Rizal's characters. I didn't find this too sweet; probably because it has more salt than your regular brazo cake.
Anyway, I think I was pretty lucky with my orders as I have no complaints. I just think the main courses are too expensive. Hehe. Then again, the place is in Greenbelt 5 and you have to give them points for the beautiful interiors.

It's very filling for each order but it is quite pricey. So other stuff can be good for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt's all fusion food -- Phil, Chinese, Spanish -- because they said it's 'colonial' cuisine. Somehow I feel that some authenticity gets lost with these 'fusion' dishes so my Lang Lang felt like normal (yet very filling) lomi.

Super expensive!! That's why I just went for the appetizers. I don't mind expensive cuisine once in a while...as long as it's something that's kind of difficult to come by. This one is just really expensive.
