Random Inspirations | Missha Raffle Winner Round 2

Because I had been really busy with the joint art & design blog I share with Cris, I didn't feel like updating this blog...even though I've got lots of stories stored in my camera. I also don't think I've given myself enough of a breather since my last semester of course work just ended. I just jumped into the next project...which is, of course, my joint exhibit with Rebie Ramoso (target: December 2010).

Anyway, I was waiting for my friends at Café Breton in Alabang Westgate when I noticed the restaurant's coaster. It was such a charming little thing.

Quite a gentle reminder to enjoy life. I know it's quite difficult for workaholics to slow down and we somehow always end up burning ourselves out. We need to breathe -- we just tend to forget how.

Speaking of life's little enjoyments, I'm now announcing the Missha raffle winner for the second round. I kind of feel sorry for the girl that followed #1 because her name came up 2nd and 3rd, but random is random.

And our winner is:

Congratulations, Nacho Bing! Please PM me in Facebook (or use this site's contact form) and provide me with your mailing address so I can ship this off to you ASAP.

I haven't heard from our previous winner, MommyLove Bytes ⎝⏠⏝⏠⎠, so I'll keep the list of names on the spreadsheet up and re-draw the raffle if she doesn't respond by November 15. Am still cooking up more contests, based on my readers' survey answers, so stay tuned.

EDIT: MommyLove Bytes finally responded. But I'm still keeping the list up. I'm OC that way. Hehe.

How to deal with power outages: Back to Basics

I woke up this morning to witness a really weird yellow sky. I wasn't sure if it were because I didn't get enough sleep (power outage began at roughly midnight) or the sky really was jaundiced. Here's a snapshot from my window.

Realizing that it was futile to attempt sleep, I got out of bed at 6AM and checked all my electronic gadgets. Laptop battery died at around 3AM. PSP was also almost dead. Ditto with my camera. My teeth were giving me hell, as they always do when I'm in dire need of sleep, so I wanted to distract myself.

I wanted to blog so bad but I had nothing. I forgot all my colored pens at my parents' house. Luckily, I remembered that Nath (Rondina) had given me a bunch of felt-tipped pens last semester. I unearthed them from underneath my bed.

I grabbed my notebook and began to scribble. So my real blog entry -- well, it's basically a rant about how awful my day started -- can be found in this notebook page:

On the bright side, I finished 3 and a half books today. It's just that my head is pounding from the lack of food and decent ventilation.

Too Much Coffee

At the LRT...
It was my first time to ride the MRT-LRT combo alone. I was thrilled when I realized that I can ride in the females-only section so I ran to that area. I noticed that a lot of the women were packing up like sardines in one entrance so I decided to go farther. The moment I sat down, noticed that the women were staring at me like I was some sort of an oddity. Then I smelled the stench. The old woman beside me must've been sick or something. She didn't have that old woman smell. She had the scent of illness. I looked around and saw a rope divider. Hm...what was that for? Then I looked right in front of me, where a sign read: THIS SIDE OF THE CAR IS ONLY FOR THE SICK, PREGNANT, AND WOMEN WITH CHILDREN. That was when I finally noticed that the women, who were staring at me, were bursting at the seams. I sighed, took a deep breath, adjusted Macbook Mi-Chan on my lap so they could see my stomach, and then blew up my tummy. I rubbed it for effect, too.

Toast of Mensa
Again, I blame the coffee. I had been in the business of talking for as long as I can remember, that it came as a shock when I found myself nervous up there. I just delivered my first speech, and I forgot 50% of it. Thank goodness, no one seemed to have noticed that the reason I had zero "Ahs" was because I would pause and smile whenever I felt it coming. My evaluator, who praised my confidence, had no friggin' idea that my hands were shaking.
